5 Must Have Items for Your Workwear Wardrobe!

5 Must Have Items for Your Workwear Wardrobe!
Posted: 7th June 2017

If you have ever worked on a construction site you will know that there is a daily potential risk of serious injury. It is the responsibility of construction companies to ensure that stringent safety measures are in place, in order to keep their staff safe whilst on site.

Ensuring the correct safety workwear is worn is essential if you wish to avoid serious injury in the workplace. The following 5 items are a must-have for your workwear wardrobe if you want to protect yourself, your staff and remain safe at work.

#1 Safety Boots

Safety boots protect your feet by helping to prevent injury in various ways. Without these vital pieces of safety workwear, your feet can become crushed or punctured by glass or nails, or you could sprain or fracture an ankle.

A well-fitting safety boot will protect against ankle sprains. Steel toe-capped boots can help to avoid a range of crushing injuries to your toes by heavy machinery or dropped objects.

At Work & Wear Direct we sell a range of safety boots, from brands such as Blundstone, Goliath, Rock Fall, V12 Boots and Magnum Boots, at some of the most competitive prices found online.

#2 Safety Helmets

Some workplaces involve a risk of falling objects. Bricks and other types of masonry can often fall at even the most secure of construction sites. These projectiles can put staff and site visitors at risk of severe head trauma or even death. So it is imperative that a good quality safety helmet / hard hat is worn at all times.

Highways England is also implementing a new safety helmet colour coding scheme as part of its ‘Raising the Bar’ health and safety initiative. With a view to achieving a common safety helmet colour standard.

#3 Hi-Vis Clothing

If you work in the construction industry, on the railways or roadside, or even in a job such as warehouse security, it is essential that you wear the correct hi-visibility safety clothing for your environment. A large majority of construction and utility industries workers wear yellow hi-vis clothing, whilst rail workers wear orange high-visibility clothing.

We sell hi-vis workwear, from brands such as Pulsar, including hi-vis joggers and hi-vis jackets.

#4 Ear Defenders

Construction sites are usually noisy places with noise from hammers, chainsaws, drills and other typical construction tools. Long term exposure to these types of noises can cause hearing problems such as burst eardrums or tinnitus and in extreme cases; hearing loss. This makes ear defenders, or earplugs, an important item of safety workwear. Earplugs can also protect the wearer from the intrusion of water or other foreign bodies such as dust or strong wind. Check out the range of hearing protection available at Work & Wear Direct.

#5 Safety Gloves

Construction sites are full of dangerous surfaces and sharp edges, so a decent pair of safety gloves are essential. Throw in the risk of electrocution and you’ll realise that hand protection is one of the most important pieces of safety workwear you can invest in! Check out the range of safety gloves we stock and sell both in-store and online.
