A Closer Look at the Tech in Hi-Tec
Posted: 27th May 2019

Hi-Tec are one of the biggest distributors of hiking boots in the UK. Hiking is the perfect way to get some exercise whilst spending time surrounded by nature, but having the right pair of Hi-Tec hiking boots is essential for your performance.

There is more than just comfort to consider when purchasing Hi-Tec boots though, material, waterproofing and soles are all important things too and should form a part of your decision. Here we take a closer look at the technologies used in Hi-Tec boots so that you can find the perfect pair for your feet.

Comfort Technologies

OrthoLite - Lightweight and breathable insoles with superior cushioning for more comfort and support. OrthoLite is crafted from open cell polyurethane and retains 95% of its cushioning after the first year. OrthoLite open cell foam is lightweight and breathable, permitting air to circulate under foot allowing excess heat and moisture to escape for cool comfort.

OrthoLite Impressions - This slow recovery foam made with 50% bio-oil content compresses to take the shape of the foot over time and creates a customised, comfortable fit. The breathability of the Impressions foam offers a unique performance benefit compared to regular memory foam.

Waterproof Technologies

Dri-Tech - The Dri-Tec membrane is Truly waterproof and breathable. Giving you superior waterproofing and excellent vapour transmission to maximise your performance in even the wettest of environments. Millions of microscopic pores in the Dri-Tec membrane allow water vapour to escape without allowing water droplets in, keeping your feet dry and comfortable.

i-shield - Created by Hi-Tec, i-Shield is an invisible protective layer that repels water and dirt with ease. i-Shield's inherent stain resistance protects against oil and stains, keeping your footwear cleaner for longer. i-Shield repels water and significantly reduces water uptake, keeping your footwear light and comfortable.

Thermo-Dri - Keep your feet both warm and dry with Thermo-Dri. A unique technology developed exclusively by Hi-Tec which integrates Thinsulate insulation from 3M with Hi-Tec’s Dri-Tec waterproof membrane, keeping feet both warm and dry.

Performance Technologies

MDT - Designed to deliver the perfect balance of traction, protection and durability. Chamfered lugs allow dirt to be released quickly, improving traction on wet and other types of terrain. Forward lugs are angled to encourage propulsion whilst rear lugs are angled to encourage breaking. Lugs are opened up in flex points to allow better flex and reduce foot fatigue.

V-Lite - V-Lite is a considered collection of lightweight, instantly comfortable footwear with technology and performance where it matters. As every pound of weight on your feet is equivalent to five pounds on your back, Hi-Tec V-LITE technology makes a real difference to your performance.

Vibram - Vibram is the world leader in high performance rubber compounds. Vibram soles are always produced with three objectives: Traction, Comfort and Protection. Over 1 million km of testing on Vibram products to ensure the highest performance.

Vibram RollinGait System - The Vibram RollinGait System is an innovative technology that helps the natural roll of the foot. It has been specially developed to optimise energy output, reduce muscle fatigue and helps you walk for longer. The unique curved shape of the RGS sole supports the natural movement of the foot on the ground.

Michelin - Experience the Michelin high-performance technical outsole, which gives you the ultimate traction, durability, flexibility and adaptability on all types of terrain encountered in everyday life.

XLR8 - XLR8 is the latest in midsole technology. This new Hi-Tec created technology provides 10% greater rebound and 10% better energy absorption.

Warmth Technologies

Thermo-Dri - Thermo-Dri is a unique technology developed exclusively by Hi-Tec which integrates Thinsulate insulation from 3M with Hi-Tec’s Dri-Tec waterproof membrane, keeping feet both warm and dry.

Thinsulate Insulation - Thinsulate insulation works by trapping air molecules between you and the outside. The more air a material traps in a given space, the greater it’s insulating value. Because the Microfibers in Thinsulate insulation are far finer than other fibres, they trap more air in less space, which naturally makes it a better insulator.
