Posted: 29th January 2020

There are many jobs where adequate safety protection is not just recommended, but required. Safety should always come first in the workplace, never being compromised or dismissed. Workplace injuries happen, but they can be minimised when proper precautions are taken.

All businesses should adhere to safety regulations and provide employees with the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). This ensures that workers are protected, significantly decreasing the risk of illness and injury and helping to avoid liability issues.

PPE includes protection for some of the most delicate parts of the body including the eyes and ears, protecting them properly should be a critical priority. Some of the most recommended workplace safety equipment is listed below.

Safety Goggles

Safety goggles should be worn whenever there is a risk of flying debris, exposure to dangerous chemicals, liquids or gases that could damage the eyes.

Safety Helmets

Head protection, such as safety helmets, keep workers safe from head injuries including impact injuries, burns and electrical shocks.

Safety Gloves

Safety gloves protect our hands against all kinds of hazards, from scratches and cuts, to abrasion wounds. They also offer protection from hazardous chemicals.

Safety Boots

Safety boots are designed to prevent injuries to feet from accidents such as slipping and tripping, sharp objects, heavy objects falling on the foot and electrical hazards.

Hearing Protection

Hearing protection should be worn whenever there is a possibility of damage to hearing. This includes loud noise or prolonged exposure to noise cannot be reduced.

Respiratory Protection

Respiratory protection should be worn if your work activities result in harmful substances contaminating the air in the form of dust, gas or other types of fumes.

Fall Arrest Equipment

Fall arrest equipment is an essential part of PPE if you work in an environment where you are at risk of falling, particularly if you are exposed to drops of 6 feet or more.

Remember, safety regulations are there to prevent accidents and injuries from occurring in the workplace. PPE protects both the employees and employer, ensuring maximum workplace safety.
